Growing Up

This morning (I can't believe I hadn't done this sooner!) I baby-gated her in her room to play while I took a shower. And she did just that - played for almost 45 minutes by herself with her stuffed animals and books. WOW! Later at moms group, Lindsey nicknamed our little sweetheart "Tank". She just barrels over anything in her way when she wants something. Then this evening, she was "helping" daddy make dinner in the kitchen. It got quiet, so I figured she was into something she shouldn't be. I went into the kitchen to check out the situation and...no baby. Where was she? Halfway up the stairs. It's hard to believe that this was just eight months ago.

Jillian was up when I got home from Emily's book party last night, so I challenged her to a heated match of peekaboo around the recliner. I was hoping to tire her out, but I think I ended up more tired than she did!

Newest Fan

So the Redskins have their newest fan! I'm actually a dreaded Cowboys fan, but my husband is a 'Skins fan and we got a Redskins outfit for Jillian as a gift. So we tried it out today. My cellphone doesn't take nearly as good pictures as my "real" camera did, but it'll have to do for now.

After the game, she decided to do a little climbing. This is Jillian standing on Daddy's laptop bag trying to eat the window.

West Virginia...wild and, well, wild.

Friday evening we headed off to Annapolis to pick up Josh and then to West Virginia to visit our friends Paul and Patti. They have a great place on the Shenandoah River and invited us down to hang out, celebrate our birthdays (yes, my husband and I have the same birthday), and float down the river on Saturday. We hung out Friday night on their awesome deck enjoying some adult bevvies. Then Saturday, since the weather was questionable, Paul borrowed a canoe from his neighbor in which we would float down the river. Us being the canoe aficionados that we are (NOT), we loaded up with me, John, Paul, Josh and the baby...we did have life jackets for the kids. Oh, yeah, and a cooler. Suffice to say, after capsizing twice and losing my money camera somewhere in the Shenandoah, we gave up that project. Wet and discouraged, but safe, we returned to Paul and Patti's and chilled out for the rest of the afternoon. We did have a fun time though, and it was certainly an adventure!

Clearly this means no pictures of our weekend fun. I will be acquiring a new camera ASAP. I feel quite naked without it.

Pearly Whites!

Jillian didn't sleep again last night. This made her (and me) a little sad today. Cranky even.

She's very unhappy about showing her top teeth. I had to check them out though, because sleepless nights usually mean teeth, and her second top tooth had already broken through I noticed earlier this week. During cry-time is the only way to really get a good look up there, and check it out...there's a third ready to pop through! And I thought we'd get a break after the first two...

Visitors, Visitors!

Today was a big day for visitors! This morning our friend Kristin brought her daughter Ella over to play. The girls played very well together, and even though Jillian kept taking toys away from Ella, she gave her hugs a couple times, and that was very sweet.

Later tonight after we went to choir practice at church, Uncle Tony came over for a visit to "talk shop" with Daddy. He always has time to get some smiles out of Jillian, even if it WAS past her bedtime!

Droopy Drawers!

Yesterday was a pretty mundane day. Daddy stayed home and other than a short trip to Target, we just chilled out here. Today we went to Rock Hill Orchard to pick some more apples. We loaded up on Jonathan and Empire apples this time. Jillian enjoyed a little apple while we worked at picking.

When we got home, Jillian spent some time playing with her sport center - focusing on the football. Touchdown!

Then we played with our activity table. Jillian just recently learned about the pictures under the "book" pages. She really thinks those pages should come off.

Lately Jillian is into pushing boundaries. Whatever she isn't supposed to get into, she's into. Over and over again. When Daddy got home, she spent time using him as a jungle gym - climbing up to stand on his shoulder and trying to get the caulk gun and Home Depot bag. Bad baby!

And this is how our little daredevil feels about seat belts.

What a tiny hiney this little girl has. This is status quo at our house for wearing pants.

Weekend Adventures, Part Two

This is what sleepy babies do. Especially when they're sleepy because they wouldn't go to sleep until 3am on Friday and 2am on Saturday. Poor little girl stayed home from church with Daddy this morning and sacked out after breakfast.

Later in the afternoon, we met Melissa, Dave and Sadie at Larriland Farm to do some apple and blackberry picking. Sadie gave Jilly a kiss. It was quite sweet.

I even remembered a hat for Jillian - and she wore it the whole time!

Sadie gave Jillian an apple to gnaw on while we were busy picking.

Jillian likes apples. I thought at first it just felt good on her sore gums to chew on it, but later I saw that she had not only broken the skin, but eaten into the flesh of the apple in several places! I knew those teeth were sharp!!

Weekend Adventures, Part One

Since mid-week, Jillian hasn't been feeling that great. She's cutting another tooth and had been running fevers a couple nights during the week. Now this is pretty unusual for her - before this, she's only had a fever one time, and that was after her second Hep B shot. We did go to the doctor yesterday and she's just fine, doc said she probably picked up a little virus somewhere and for us to keep doing what we were doing. So that made me feel a little better. Jillian tried drinking some water out of her sippy cup again. She's not so good at it yet (notice water spots all over)....

She does much better getting a shoe in her mouth. At least her own shoes are a little cleaner than mine, since she doesn't really do any walking around in them.

Later Saturday evening, we went to visit Bubby and Paw-Paw for their annual Crab Feast. Jillian held up really well, especially for not feeling well. I think the change of scenery did her some good. She got to play with the dogs...

...and got schooled about the Jonas Brothers by Bubby's niece.

Of course hugs from daddy always go over well too.

Home Away from Home

Due to their fantastic beer selection and being very close to home, The Frisco Grille in Columbia is quickly becoming our home away from home when we have evening showings scheduled. Despite still not feeling great, Jillian accompanied me there yesterday evening while some people came to look at our house. Daddy had a computer group meeting, so our friend Liz met us up there for dinner and a couple beers. Wonder where she gets it from?

Long Days...and Nights....

Jillian is getting a new tooth. That means sleepless nights and cranky days. Two sleepless nights down, and another one on the way, so it seems. Today we went over to our friend Ali's house for a little while. She has a baby girl older than Jillian and is expecting a baby boy in November. That means heaps and heaps of baby girl clothes, hats, jackets, and shoes for us!

We also got a Little Tikes Little Champs Sports Center and a nice wooden rocking horse!

Besides that, today was spent fighting sleep and keeping Jilly's fever down. Poor little one. I feel awfully bad, but I know she'd be a bit happier if she'd sleep some. And I'm pretty sure I'd feel better if I slept some too. Hopefully this tooth will break through SOON and we our household can get back to normal!

The World is Her Playground

Today we had our friends over for moms group. Jillian has decided that everything, and everyONE, is her playground. She's not intentionally mean, but climbing on other kids, pulling hair, and taking things that others are playing with is her MO. I didn't get any pictures of the "attacks", because I thought it would be rude to let her continue to invade another baby's face so I could get a good shot of it.

After her friends left, she was sad and kept looking out the front door. Now I need to clean the baby slobber off the glass!

After a couple naps this afternoon, Jillian was raring to go tonight and was even more enthusiastic with her DVD investigation.

Thoughts from an Eight Month Old

Mommy learned today that belt loops are perfect for hooking those rings. Hooray for toys that stay attached to the baby and don't end up on the floor!

This picture is a little blurry, but Jillian LOVES the cat. She loves pulling his hair and tackling him. She loves trying to eat him and get his tail. He does not so much love this. You can see the clumps of white fur that she pulled out on the chair. Gus the cat here is swatting at her as she keeps trying to get him. She loves that too!

Jillian just loves shoes. Any shoes that aren't on her feet. Hers, mine, daddy's, Josh's. Now, I'm not a huge bacteriaphobe, but I figure shoes are probably one of the nastiest things for which she could have a penchant. Not only do you get the nastiness that's on the soles of the shoes from walking around who-knows-where in who-knows-what, but you get the yummy, smelly stuff that grows on the inside too. Really, they look harmless, but EW!

Missed Naps = NO Fun

Somehow today we managed to be out just about all day. And miss both of Jillian's naps. It made for quite the interesting (enter other better adjective here...like awful, miserable, etc.) evening. We had some decent play time in the afternoon. But other than that, our home time was pretty touch and go. Even though she posed for mommy with the camera, you can still tell by her eyes that she's sleepy. Hope we have a good night's sleep before we go to LaunchFest at NASA Goddard tomorrow!

Day Trip

Today Jillian and I planned on going to the beach. Of course we got a late start - I was up early to get a shower before the baby woke up and naturally, she slept in. On our way out to Rehoboth, we stopped by the funeral home in Centreville at which I used to work, so Jillian could say hi to our friends there. We had a nice visit and Jillian charmed everyone with her smiles and mobility.

Then we continued on to the beach. We got there a little after 1pm and met up with my mom, her college roommate Ann, Ann's daughter-in-law Karen, Karen's mom, and Karen's new 2-1/2 week old Matthew. After a short stroll on the boardwalk we had lunch at our favorite pizza place, Grotto Pizza. Mmmmm...yum! Jillian had baby food and Cheerios, and a couple small bites of pizza crust.

A trip to the outlets was in order, too. Jillian got some new clothes, mainly a couple pairs of jeans that fit her tiny little hiney for this cooler weather. My mom bought me a couple pairs of pants and a sweater too, as an early birthday present - yay for pants that fit!

Soon it was already time to head home. We stopped at Sonic for dinner on the way home, since there aren't ANY Sonics in Maryland. I'm convinced it's a conspiracy.

The sunset was beautiful coming home. This picture doesn't really do it justice. It kept getting prettier and prettier, and I kept waiting to stop and take a picture. I think I waited too long and didn't catch the best part of it.

When we got home, Jillian got to stay up late and play a little, since she spent most of the day strapped into her stroller, car seat or high chair. She likes her new clothes!

All in all, we had a nice trip to the beach, albeit entirely too short!

No News is Bad News

I don't really have anything exciting to blog about. Today was an ordinary day. Weather was gorgeous, Jillian and I did some playing around the house and some running around. I picked up another new diaper bag.

The bigger news is that I'm totally bummed out. On Monday we had a family come see the house in the morning. Later that evening, they brought their parents back to see the house again. They were here for about 45 minutes, and had been sitting around the kitchen table, obviously contemplating buying our house. Their agent called my agent and asked how soon we could settle. At this point, my hopes are up. Seriously up. There IS a light at the end of the tunnel. A huge weight was already starting to lift. Today we found out that they made an offer on another property. Ouch. This sucks. The weight's back and heavier than before.

Thank goodness Jilly and I are going to the beach tomorrow for the day. That should perk me back up.

Today we went over to Emily's house for our moms group. Jillian decided to attempt stairs. She was successful. When we got home, I figured I ought to get a video of her new found stair climbing abilities. Here she is!

Mobility - WAY Overrated

Jillian joined me in the kitchen today as I was putting away our groceries. She found the cat's water dish.

You can see her reflection in the puddle of water on the floor.

After I shooed her out of the kitchen due to treacherous wet floor conditions, she scooted to the front door and tried to escape.

And she wonders why I pen her in when we're hanging out during the day...

Fall Fun!

While it's not officially fall yet, the onset of fall means two things for me. The return of NFL football and fall beers. After church today, I threw on my jersey and camped out on the couch for an afternoon of football. Oh how I've missed it. My fantasy team did well, and my Cowboys won. Jillian hung out with me, but she did more playing that football watching. It's cute to see her start to pick her favorite toys and stuffed animals. Until recently, she really hasn't favored one thing over the next. She sure has taken to her pink bear, Rosebearie. I think she likes it because it's close to her size and soft, but really lightweight for her to drag around.

Being a dark"er" beer lover, I find many more seasonals this time of year that suit my tastes than I do in the spring and summer. First up this fall...pumpkin beers. These are the three I had this afternoon/evening. My favorite of the bunch was the Wolaver's. I'm not especially fanatic about organic stuff, but the fact that the Will Stevens' Pumpkin Ale is organic is a plus! And it is quite tasty. I'll have to stock up. I bought a mixed six pack of pumpkin beers last week, so I could try a variety without being stuck with a full six pack of something I didn't love.
